Heavy Duty Garden Hoe-originally designed for forest/brush fires. This hoe is made for hard work. This sturdy, heavy-duty hardened steel hoe was originally designed for the State of California. This hoe was specially designed to aid in fighting forest/brush fires and reforestation work. Much like a maddock, this hoe will make lighter work of the tougher outdoor tasks. The heft and sharpness of this hoe enables the user to chop through roots and trench through tough sod much more easily than with conventional garden hoes. The main features of this hoe are a tempered and polished, sharpened high carbon steel blade and a 52" long handle made of clear ash. A hoe designed to hold up under the most vigorous tasks.

My initial impression after twenty minutes of use: this is the hoe I have always wanted. It will never fall apart. It can cut through anything. If I get behind in my weeding, it will let me get caught up without killing myself.The handle is nice and heavy, and a good healthy length. The head is broad , a little flexible, and really sharp. The head is attached to the handle with two bolts that are perpendicular to each other. Wow.It can cut through the worst stuff in my garden -- dense grassy weeds -- like nothing. I have used maybe 10 different hoes in my life, and 3 or 4 different *types* of hoe. Now, I will never buy another one.After I finished using it, I washed it. I have never done that before. (And the next morning, I found out that the head can rust, a little. I don't care. I will oil it. )I'm pretty sure that, after they saw me using this thing yesterday, many of the weeds in my garden will probably just uproot themselves and find someplace else to live. They may be weeds, but they're not stupid.------------------ SIX YEARS LATER -----------------------------I actually *am* buying another hoe -- and that's why I noticed this review. The new hoe I am buying is not for me, though. I don't need a new hoe because, six years later, this one is still working. The head has not loosened at all. The handle maybe could use a little oil or something, but the hoe is as functional as the day I first used it.One other thing -- please note that hoes have two purposes -- weed killing, and earth moving. Some hoes are OK for weed killing, but useless for earth moving. This one is good for both.
