Product Description
The Grass Stitcher lets you inexpensively repair bare spots in your lawn quickly and easily. This revolutionary eco-lawn tool works right through dead grass, and leaving the organic material in place adds beneficial mulch and nutrients. Just add seed and water and walk away. There are many ways to make holes in the ground, but no tool can make holes like the Grass Stitcher. It creates the perfect environment for grass seed germination because of the unique plowing action of the wheels, the precise shape and size of the spikes, and the efficient handle design. The efficient handle allows users to easily apply force to the wheels using either foot pressure or body weight. Durable poly/fiberglass wheels withstand the force so the spikes penetrate the soil at the correct depth. The wheels penetrate at a distinct angle, creating a plowing effect, loosening and mounding soil. The spikes penetrate up to their small, stubby support arm, achieving the correct depth each time and creating an extra-wide hole that's surrounded by the mounded loose soil. The loosened soil crumbles on top of the seeds when watered. The spiked wheels grind the existing grass, effectively recycling it as mulch. Lifetime warranty.

The tool really works!
By Ldtaylor
The Grass Stitcher is actually a great invention and worked as advertised. The handle is very heavy duty tubular steel and appears indestructible. The rows of teeth on the business end of the tool are made of a plastic material that are not indestructible. In my first use of the tool to repair some bare patches in my lawn a plastic tooth on the head of the tool struck a piece of wood mulch in the ground and broke a tooth. I also had another tooth get bent presumably by a small rock. The results were great, and the tool created a great aerated spot for grass seed and the bare spots are now sporting new grass. My concern is how many more uses will I get from this tool with the plastic teeth? The product comes with allegedly a life time warranty. Seems like the engineers should have used metal instead of plastic for the teeth. As a postscript I will add that the manufacturer took the time to read my review, and actually send me new teeth for the tool. The company also confirmed that the tool comes with a lifetime warranty and will replace any damaged parts for the life of the tool. Grassstitcher is a class act!

Didn't work for me! Sorry!
By Je Maintiendrai
Contrary to most of the Amazon reviews, I find this tool very disappointing and not worth the money. The construction of the main shaft, footrest and wheel base is solid and well-built. The wheels / teeth are constructed of some allegedly "forgiving" poly / fiberglass material, even if the wheels / teeth come across and feel fragile. This startles me (in comparison to the solid construction of the rest of the tool.). We've used the tool for the past few days with very mixed emotions and at best average results. Unless the soil is loose, this tool might as well be classified under fitness instruments. It's not easy to use in tough, compacted soil. Even when used in accordance with enclosed instructions it becomes an exercise in acrobatics. The "no back or arm muscles" description promoted on the Amazon site comes across as ironic since the contortion or balancing act effected with the Grass Stitcher on tough or compacted soil most definitely include the referenced muscles. In all fairness to the Grass Stitcher, I must mention that the tool comes with "a no-questions-asked lifetime warranty and 100-Percent satisfaction guarantee." In my humble opinion, I would in all likelihood need the warranty if I were to continue use of the tool on our property. The latter, however, is unlikely. This tool doesn't save me any time or effort over the good ol' traditional and definitely more effective seeding techniques. I'm a gadget aficionado and will try any gardening tool that renders my gardening work more efficient. The Grass Stitcher doesn't meet that benchmark even remotely.Follow-up: In full disclosure, I have decided to return the Grass Stitcher.

Wow, Just Wow!!
By OrangeCrush
Last year I took over for my mother, in regards to the yard work at her house. Its just too much work for her as she still works like 65 hours a week and she just doesn't have the energy or time to do lawn work. Anyways, her grass in the front was an utter nightmare. Huge holes where there was no grass at all, Crabgrass everywhere, etc.. It just looked awful. The rest of her front yard looked great as she just recently had all new bushes and shrubs put in. So I took it upon myself to help her with her grass. The problem is I have never done anything with grass before, short of watering it and keeping it healthy once its already grown. I was a total newbie in regards to growing new grass. So I started researching on the internet, in regards to the best method of redoing her lawn. She didn't want to spend a lot of money so laying sod was out of the question. I knew I was going to have to go the seed route. I wound up stumbling upon the Grass Stitcher on Amazon and it sounded absolutely perfect for what I needed. If it actually worked, I would no longer have to tear up the old grass. I could just use the grass stitcher, and lay down new seed. It sure sounded simple enough so I took a chance and ordered it. I was confident that it would work based on the fact that it had so many positive reviews on Amazon. This is one of my favorite aspects to Amazon in general, the reviews, and its why I try and do my part by writing reviews for products I buy.Anyways, I had also done some research in regards to what seed to buy and I wound up buying a 5 seed mix from a seed store on the internet. It was a mix of 3 types of Kentuky Blue Grass (Midnight, Bewitched, and Award) plus Zodiac Chewings Fescue and GS perennial Ryegrass. I purchased Scotts Turf Builder Lawn Soil for the top soil and I also purchased some Vermiculite as her soil was pretty dense and had some clay in it. I now had all of the tools and supplies needed, the Grass Stitcher, the grass seed, the top soil and the Vermiculite.I openly admit I was still a bit nervous as I had never done this before so I decided to do a test area instead of going all out and doing the entire lawn at once. If it worked I could do the rest of the lawn come this spring. I wound up choosing one of the worst areas, right in front of her new bushes. It was basically an area roughly 8' by 15'. I followed the directions for the Stitcher to the letter and it worked great. It only took me about 15 minutes to do the 8x15 area I was planning on planting. I was actually pleasantly surprised how easy it tore up the old grass. As long as you dont extend the Grass Stitcher far out from your body and you use your foot and body weight for applying most of the pressure, its actually very easy and requires very little effort. There were a couple stubborn spots but even those were quickly chewed up by the Stitcher. Its not only easy to use but very comfortable to use. This is really one of the most impressive aspects to the Stitcher. It's ergonomically top notch in every regard. As soon as I was done stitching the old grass, I sprinkled the bag of Vermiculite over the area and used the Stitcher to blend it into the soil. I then proceeded to mix an appropriate amount of seeds into some of the top soil, which I did in a big plastic bucket. I then sprinkled the seed mixture over the area and finally proceeded to put a layer of top soil over the layer of seeds. I was done and it took me roughly 45 minutes. Instead of having an area that had terrible spotty grass, it was now black from the top soil, which just made me more nervous as it now looked even worse and I was still unsure if this was going to work. The day I planted was Saturday, September 24th (2011).I proceeded to heavily water the area the first couple of days and then moved into a more normal watering cycle after that, usually twice a day. It only took around 7 days before I saw the first shoots of grass popping up. After that it absolutely exploded. Within 3 weeks the area was fully green and its been growing fast ever since. Its now Friday, October 28th (2011) and it looks amazing. Its easily the best looking part of her lawn and it just keeps getting better and better with each passing week. The color is absolutely beautiful, a much lighter green than the previous grass. All in all I couldn't possible be happier. I have purchased the supplies to do the entire lawn come spring time. Looking back I cant believe how easy it really was and this is mostly in part to the Grass Stitcher. It took care of the old grass and prepped the soil for the new grass at the same time. I couldn't possible be happier with the results. In fact, I am now considering doing my lawn as well.Bottom line - The Grass Stitcher is amazing. Its designed amazingly well and it basically makes the process of planting grass seeds an extremely easy task, and a successful one at that. If I had known that it was this easy I would have done my own lawn a long time ago. Again, I couldn't possible be happier with the results. It was worth every last penny and then some.5 Stars!Edit:Its now Nov 14th and the area is fully grown in. The individual shoots of grass are still pretty narrow but the area itself is fully grown in. You can no longer see any dirt whatsoever and the area looks amazing. Again, its a much brighter green than the original grass. My mothers neighbor has been so impressed that she now wants me to help her with her lawn come spring time. She is a really nice lady and actually came outside and watched me do the section of my mothers lawn. Neither of us expected it to turn out this nice. Of course, I told her I would be more than willing to help her. Looks like I will be getting a lot of use out of my Sticher come spring time! Its all good tho, I am just happy I have one. All in all, its easily one of the best landscaping/garden tools I have ever purchased.
