SEYMOUR WEED SCYTHE BLADE
By JOHN MURPHY
I live at the edge of the Gettysburg National Military Park. In 2008, the National Park Service took down a large, 50 acre wooded area next to me to restore the Battlefield to its 1863 "look". They were supposed to send in brush hogs to keep regrowth down, but have not been able to do so. I have volunteered to do my best at attacking the regrowth. Bought this heavy duty "weed ", scythe blade. It is great. Can handle small trees, bramble, heavy "turkey grass", thistle etc. etc. Handles all with ease. For a 76 year old ... this is no easy task. This tool takes me back to my 20s. In fact, a much better tool than I had in the 1950s. Regular, normal duty blade would not have done as well in these conditions. Heavy enough to get the job done, but not to tire you out. Sharp enough to mow down regular, high grass. Thistle and small trees don't have a chance.Easy to attach to the snath. Good Austrian workmanship in this product.

Good blade
By Nathan Toews
Bought this blade with the Seymour SN-9 aluminum snath. The blade fit the snath well and was easy to install. I had to adjust the blade-to-ground angle to fit my 6'-5" height by bending the tang slightly with a pair of big pipe wrenches. For someone between 5'-6" and 6'-0" it should be just about right as it is.As noted in another review, the blade finish and grinding is rough. This is to be expected from just about any hand tool, with the exception of saws. You should ALWAYS expect to have to rework the edge when you buy a cutting tool. Whether it's a chisel, plane, carving gouge, machete, or... scythe, it will need a little work before you can use it. It took me about 20 minutes of draw filing the bevels and another 10-15 minutes with a scythe stone to get the edge to a working condition; no big deal considering that I'll get many years of use out of the tool. The blade steel and heat treating seems appropriate for the use: it's soft enough to work easily with a file, but hard enough to hold its shape well when in use. I didn't have any problems with the edge folding over when cutting tough material like hardwood saplings up to around 3/4" diameter and dried branches hidden in the grass. I ended up with a few chips in the edge as I found (and removed) every hidden stone in the small field and road shoulder I was mowing, but they are small and will be easliy removed with a little more filing. After a weekend of using my scythe, I'm completely sold on the tool. It is my new go-to tool for property maintenance. I expected it to be a great tool for clearing tall grass, and it is. I didn't anticipate that it would perform as well as it does in the heavy stuff: berry vines don't slow it down, 3/4" hardwood saplings fall in one stroke, and any tree branches below 10 feet off of the ground and 3/4 inches in diameter are fair game. One last thing (obvious but still worth emphasizing): it is QUIET.The only thing I've come across that this tool is not suitable for is short grass. Anything under 6" tall just tends to bend over rather than cutting.

First Time Scythe User.
By J. Masarik
I have never used a scythe before buying this blade and the aluminum snath. I need to keep the weeds down on approximately 9000 linear feet of microjet irrigation polytube in my 5 acre grove. I have tried trimmer mowers, grass trimmers, weed whips, in combination with herbicides, with marginal results. I decided to try the weed scythe.. I am amazed how well it works. I use less effort to get the job done than with the motorized devices. It slices through the thick weeds including any woody plants. No unnecessary noise, pollution, and I minimized the use of herbicides.
